Troy Baseball Pauses Conference Play to Invite Alabama State to RPF

TROY, Ala. – Flying high on a five-game win streak with a clean sweep over nationally ranked Coastal Carolina, the Troy baseball program pauses the SBC schedule to invite Alabama State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. into Riddle-Pace Field.

The Trojans (31-14, 14-7 SBC) put the nation on notice after entering Springs Brooks Stadium and sweeping their SBC foe Coastal Carolina, who was ranked 12th in the country. Each game, the Trojans showed more dominance, going from a come-from-behind win in game one to run ruling the Chanticleers in game three.
Ben Arnett surged onto the scene with a pair of home runs to match the nation's leader in RBIs, Brooks Bryan. In the three-game series, there were eight home runs hit, and all eight were from the Trojans – Arnett, Bryan, Aidan Gilroy, Will Butcher, Kole Myers and Tremayne Cobb Jr. Cobb Jr. had the most significant in relation to impact and runs with his first career grand slam in game one.
Arnett also finished with the highest batting average on the weekend with seven hits in 11 at-bats for 13 total bases, a slugging percentage of 1.182 and an on-base percentage of .692. Bryan and Gilroy also finished at .500 or above with .545 and .500, respectively. The leader in RBIs was tied between Bryan and Butcher with six, while Cobb Jr. followed with five.
Michael Osmond appeared twice from the pin for the Trojans, allowing zero earned runs through 2.1 IP, keeping Coastal Carolina to no hits to earn a save in game one, and adding a strikeout. Clete Hartzog also came in for relief to hold a 0.00 ERA with just one hit in his 3.1 innings.
Alabama State (22-20, 13-8 SWAC) suffered a 14-3 loss to open the month of April on home runs from Bryan, Butcher and Myers and three hits from Ethan Kavanagh and Cobb Jr. to tally 14. Jay Dill and Grayson Stewart had impressive showings from the mound, combining for two runs, two hits and five strikeouts through six innings.
The Hornets do come to Troy red hot with a sweep over Mississippi Valley State and being winners of five of their last six – lone loss came 16-6 against Georgia State. The bats have stayed rolling for the Hornets all season, ranking 12th in the country for batting average at .320 – leads the SWAC. They also have the 17th-best team in sac bunts with 34 on the season
