MADISON, Miss. – Paced by three individuals in the top seven, Troy is in second place following Monday's opening round of the Sun Belt Men's Golf Championship at the Annandale Golf Club.

Jake Springer shot even par and is tied for fourth place, while George Burch and Brantley Scott are tied for seventh place at 1-over par. Troy carded 14 birdies as a team, the second-most in the field, with Nick Fowlkes and Scott leading the way with four each, fourth-most in the field.

Troy shot 9-over as a team on the 7,190-yard course to finish the day in second place, nine shots back of Arkansas State and four shots ahead of a trio of teams tied for fifth place. Marshall and ULM are two shots back of Troy in a tie for third place; the top four teams following three rounds advance to match play to decide the title.

Springer carded three of his four birdies before marking the turn, and a birdie on the par-4 10^th pushed his card to 2-under. He followed four straight pars before back-to-back bogeys on 15 and 16 settled his card at even-par for the round.

Scott dropped consecutive birdies on the fourth and fifth and made the turn even after a double on the par-5 seventh. He played even-par until a bogey on the 18^th ended his day at 1-over. Burch had birdies on the second and 15^th, both par-3 holes, around a trio of bogeys for his round of 73.

Fowlkes made the turn at 5-over before back-to-back birdies to open the back nine. He ran into some trouble in the middle of the back before a birdie on 18, while Pablo Gracia birdied the fifth and 10^th; the pair shot 79 and are tied for 54^th place.

Troy will hit the course for the second round on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. along with Arkansas State and Marshall in the lead group.
