Troy, Ala. – The Troy softball team is preparing to travel to Auburn, Alabama to face the No.25 Tigers at Jane B. Moore Field on Tuesday, March 5.
These two in-state foes have plenty of history between the two programs with 31 previous matchups. The Trojans are 7-22-2 against the Tigers and haven't beaten them since March 21, 2012.
This will be the first of a home-and-home series between the two programs and the nationally ranked Tigers will come to the Troy Softball Complex on March 19.
The Trojans are coming off a tough weekend in Starkville, Mississippi where they dropped three of their five games in the Bulldog Invitational.
Jade Sinness has been the key foundation of Troy's offense this season. The fifth-year senior is currently leading the Trojans with a .377 batting average and 18 RBIs. The slugger has also added three homers and six doubles to her impressive campaign.
Libby Baker is having a career year from the circle in her first eight appearances. The two-way star leads the Trojans with a 2.61 ERA over 51 innings. Baker has struck out 26 batters and limited them to a .197 batting average to compile a 6-2 record. Baker's only two losses have come from a 2-1 loss to No. 21 Indiana and a 5-2 loss to No. 24 Mississippi State.
Auburn (12-2-1) is entering this game on a seven-game winning streak. The Tigers beat No.13 Utah, 1-0, earlier this season and tied against No. 23 Virginia Tech after a rain delay ended the game after the sixth inning.
Junior catcher Amelia Lech leads the Tigers' offense with five homers, 17 RBIs and a .303 batting average. Senior pitcher Maddie Penta has been Auburn's ace so far this season. Over her nine starts, Penta has bolstered a 0.60 ERA over 58 innings. Penta has been untouchable this season, punching out 86 opposing batters and limiting them to a .128 average.
