TROY, Ala. – The No. 73 Troy men's tennis team defeated in-state rival South Alabama, 4-1, Saturday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex in Sun Belt Conference action; the Trojans snapped an eight-match losing streak to the Jaguars with the victory.

As it has been the last two seasons for Troy (17-4, 3-2 SBC), the doubles point played a critical role in Troy's victory on Saturday. The Trojans have now won the doubles point in nine of the last 10 matches and are 31-2 the last two seasons when winning the doubles point.

The win was Troy's first over South Alabama since a 4-2 victory in 2017 in Tallahassee, Fla.

Mario Martinez Serrano and Luciano Alcocer moved to 11-0 as a pair, winning 7-5 on court three before Carles Anton and Yeray Andres Pastor won 6-4 on court two to wrap up the point as they moved to 8-1 as a duo.

The Jaguars (7-9, 2-3) evened the match, winning 6-1, 6-2 on court six, before Martinez completely overmatched Rostislav Halfinger on court one, 6-2, 6-2, as he improved to 20-1 on the season to put Troy up 2-1.

It was all Troy the rest of the way as Noah Martens improved to 17-4 on the year with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Javier Montoya on court three before Carles Anton clinched the match on court two in three sets. He and Jack Clements, who had been playing No. 1 most of the year for South Alabama, traded 6-4 results in the first two sets before Anton cruised to a 6-1 victory in the third set.
