Men’s Tennis Knocks Southern Miss from Ranks of SBC Unbeatens

TROY, Ala. – Troy men's tennis rebounded for a 4-1 victory over Southern Miss on Sunday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex as the Trojans handed the Golden Eagles their first loss in Sun Belt Conference play.
Troy (16-4, 2-2 SBC) jumped out to the early lead with wins on courts two and three in doubles. Mario Martinez Serrano and Luciano Alcocer remained unbeaten (10-0) with a 6-4 win on court three before Carles Anton and Yeray Andres Pastor clinched the point with a 6-3 win as they moved to 7-1 as a duo.
Pastor pushed Troy in front 2-0 with quick work on court four as he moved to 15-3 on the year with a 6-2, 6-0 victory, while Martinez improved to 19-1 in singles, winning 6-3, 6-2 on court one, pulling Troy within a point of victory.
The Golden Eagles (6-5, 2-1), who won at South Alabama on Saturday, picked up their lone point of the match with a win on court two before Noah Martens clinched the victory for Troy with his 15th win of the season, a 7-5, 6-2 win on court three.
Troy improved to 10-1 at home this season as the Trojans wrap up a three-game swing on Saturday against South Alabama.
