Troy Softball Wins in Extra Innings Over Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – Troy softball picked up its second conference win in an extra-inning showdown to defeat the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 8-6 on Sunday afternoon at St. John Stadium.
Troy (22-9, 2-1 SBC) continues its hot streak from the plate, racking up nine hits and eight RBIs.
Kayden Dunn had a day at the plate, where she went 2-for-3 with a .421 clip, including a two-run homer.
Coastal Carolina struck first in the second inning with two singles and a walk to load the Chanticleers' bases. Clara Hudgens ripped a double to center field to score two runs, giving Coastal Carolina an early 2-0 lead.
In the third frame, three Trojans got on base on three walks. Riggs stepped up to the plate and popped one to left field to score Dunn. With bases still loaded, Libby Baker hit a sacrifice fly for Natalie Turner to cross the plate, tying the game, 2-2.
The game cooled down until the sixth inning when Anslee Finch drew a walk and Mia Tidmore reached on a fielder's choice. With pinch hitter Cassidy Boltz at the plate, she ripped one over the center field wall, giving the Trojans a 5-2 lead.
Coastal Carolina battled back in the bottom of the seventh frame, plating three runs on five hits, sending the game into extra innings.
In the ninth frame, Baker was due up at the plate. With the 0-1 pitch, Baker mashed one over the left-center wall to break the 5-5 stalemate, taking a solo lap around the bases and putting the Trojans ahead at 6-5. The offense did not stop there, with Audra Thompson getting on base with a bunt, bringing Dunn to the plate. Dunn hit the second home run of the inning, scoring two runs, 8-5.
The Chanticleers tried to rally back with a well-placed double from Hope McDonald to score Ava Strickland, bringing the score to 8-6 before Haley Pittman struck out Georgia Hood to clinch the victory.
Pittman and Baker pitched in a tandem for the Trojans, giving nine innings between them. Baker (10-4) collected her 10th win with 4.1 innings of work, while Pittman picked up her third save of the season.
Notables
- This is the second time the Trojans have hit three home runs in one game during the 2023 campaign, the first one was on February 25 against Morehead State.
- Kayden Dunn hit her second career home run.
- Libby Baker hit her 26th career home run in today's game. It moves her seventh in the record book behind Jade Sinness and Kelly Horne with 32 home runs.
- Libby Baker is now tied with her all-time career wins at 10, set during the 2022 season.
