TROY, Ala. – After picking up another pair of singles victories last week, Gabrielle Leslie was named the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday afternoon.
This is Leslie's first time winning the weekly Sun Belt honor, and it's the first time a Troy player has won it since Hagar Ramadan-Amin did so in the 2022 season.
With the wins, Leslie continues her impressive start to the spring season as she remains undefeated in singles play at 8-0. The junior from Bridgetown, Barbados, joined the program prior to the start of the season after playing two seasons at Prairie View A&M.
Leslie picked up her two wins out of the No. 6 singles spot. Against Belmont, Leslie secured a 7-5, 6-2 win. She continued her strong play on Sunday, as she won 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 in the No. 6 spot. Sunday was also the first time this spring that Leslie had dropped a set. She had won all her previous matches in straight sets.
Including the fall season, Leslie is 16-4 on the year and has won 14 of her last 15 matches. She holds not only the best spring singles record on the team but also the best overall singles record.
Leslie and the Trojans are back in action with a pair of matches at home this week. On Thursday, the Trojans host Samford at the Lunsford Tennis Complex at 1:30 p.m. before hosting Mercer at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
