TROY, Ala. – Troy softball capped off the Trojan Classic with a 4-2 victory over Gardner-Webb Sunday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex.

Troy (9-4) started early in the first frame, as D'Aun Riggs singled up the middle to get on base and Jade Sinness drew a walk. Two batters later, Libby Baker stepped up to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Riggs and giving the Trojans the 1-0 lead.

Gardner-Webb answered back in the top of the third when Emily Garcia got to base on a Troy error. With Jailyn Tineo up to the plate, a double sent Garcia home, tying the game, 1-1.

Sinness broke the game open for the Trojans in frame four when she hit a three-run shot, scoring Natalie Turner, who drew a walk and Riggs, who singled to give the Trojans a 4-1 lead.

The Bulldogs tried to answer one more time, with a solo home run in the seventh by Adrienne Visintine, but two back-to-back balls into the outfield would end the Bulldogs' run, sealing the win for Troy.

Alyssa Faircloth (4-0) collected the win from the circle with 4.1 innings of work. She struck out three batters and gave up two hits.

Thoughts from head coach Eric Newell

"We competed; this was a tough stretch, so we are excited to get a day of rest. To go 4-2 on the weekend, with the only two losses coming from Indiana, a top-25 team. This was a tough game for us, the sixth game in four days. Gardner-Webb played us tough and gave us what we wanted. Even though I thought we were a little flat, it was cool to see us come out with a win at the end of a long weekend."

The Trojans head to Georgia to compete in the Mercer Bear Tournament, facing off against Mercer, Morehead State and Bryant.

Jade Sinness hit her second three-run home run over two weeks. She is the only Trojan to hit a home run in both of Troy's home tournaments this season.
