Trojans Prepare For The Mercer Bear Invitational

Troy, Ala. – The Troy softball team will take their first road trip of the season this weekend when they travel to Macon, Georgia for the Mercer Bear Invitational.
This will be the third tournament of the season for the Trojans and will be their first road game after starting the 2024 campaign with a 13-game homestand. The Mercer Bears play host to Troy, Morehead State and Bryant for their second tournament of the season.
The Trojans start the tournament with two games scheduled for Friday. Troy plays against Bryant on Friday, February 23 at 12:30 p.m. before playing the host team right after the opener, with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
The second day of the tournament begins at 4 p.m. for the Trojans, who will face Morehead State for the first time in the invitational which is followed by Troy's second meeting with Bryant on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The Trojans finish the invitational with their second matchup against Morehead State on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
Seniors Jade Sinness and D'Aun Riggs lead the Trojans' offense. Sinness is batting .400 on the season with two home runs and 15 RBIs. Riggs is hitting at a .413 clip as Troy's leadoff hitter, recording 17 base knocks and scoring 11 runs.
Libby Baker leads the Trojans from the circle. The two-way senior has earned a 2.33 ERA over her five starts, recording a 4-1 record. Baker has recorded 17 strikeouts through 30 frames.
The Doghouse
The Bryant Bulldogs are looking to build on their 4-0 start to the 2024 season. Olyvia Smith, a graduate senior outfielder, is hitting at a .500 clip through 16 at-bats. Gracie McKillop, a true freshman, has been outstanding in the circle for the Bulldogs, posting 10 strikeouts through 13 innings while only allowing one earned run on the season.
Brother Bear
The Mercer Bears have started this season 4-1, only dropping one game in their opening tournament and run-ruling Georgia State 10-2. Kassidy Moore, a junior infielder, leads the Mercer offense, hitting at a .500 clip with four homers and 12 RBIs. Gabby Ellis, a freshman pitcher, is a key piece in the Bears' rotation. Ellis has appeared in two games already this season, notching her first collegiate start under her belt, and has earned a 1.11 ERA over 6.1 innings of work.
The Eagles' Nest
The Eagles have started the season 3-2 after their opening weekend. Darlene Montoya, a junior outfielder, leads the Eagles with a .471 batting average, seven RBIs and five doubles. Addie Stem, a freshman pitcher, has seen the most success from the circle this season. Stem has appeared in five games, striking out 13 batters over 20.1 frames and earning a 2.07 ERA to start her collegiate career.
