TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's basketball team opened its class of 2025 by signing Tony Montgomery and Emmanuel Clarton, head coach Scott Cross announced on Thursday morning.
"Both of these guys really fit who we are and what we're about," Cross said. "They're both local kids. Tony is right outside the state and Emmanuel is in the state. We want to start in Troy and recruit out. We found two great high school kids, and we're excited to have both of them."
Clarton, a Livingston, Ala., native, is a 6-6 guard out of Sumter Central High School. Through three completed seasons, he has helped lead the Jaguars to a 72-12 record and no more than six losses in any of those three seasons. He reached the 1,000 career points mark in just two-and-a-half seasons. The Jaguars reached the Class 3A Final Four in each of the last two seasons.
During his junior campaign, he averaged 25.6 points, six rebounds, seven assists and recorded 76 steals. In the last two years, he earned All-Area, All-Region and All-State. He was also named to the Tuscaloosa Super 5.
Off the court, Clarton was a member of Beta Club, Honor Society, SGA and an honor roll student.
"Emmanuel came to our team camp and then also to elite camp, and we love what he did. He has a toughness to him. He plays the right way, and he can really shoot the basketball. He's a great, great teammate, who really knows how to play," Cross said.
Montgomery, a native of Columbus, Ga., is a 6-1 guard out of Carver High School. In each of his three completed seasons, he has averaged in double-figure scoring and has not lost more than six game in a single year. His first two years were spent at Spencer High School where he put together a 55-6 record. He averaged 10 points during his freshman campaign, before upping that to 11.1 during his sophomore year. He transferred to Carver prior to his junior season and exploded offensively as he averaged 21 points.
His first year of high school saw him earn Freshman of the Year, All-Region Second Team and receive a Region All-Star Game invite. His junior year saw him named the Offensive Player of the Year, the 4A Player of the Year, All-Region First Team, All-State First Team and a plethora of other honors.
"Tony is an extremely quick scoring guard. He kind of reminds me a little bit of Damien Lillard the way he plays. He can flat fill it up, he can drive, he can pass and he's got a good frame to him. He's an 'our kind of guy', and we're extremely excited," Cross said.
