TROY, Ala. – After a deep WNIT run with the first postseason victory in the program's history, Troy women's basketball returns three players in Zay Dyer, Leilani Guion and Shaulana Wagner, with the pair in Dyer and Wagner earning Preseason All-Sun Belt honors.
"Our three returners will be depended on to instill the non-negotiables of Troy women's basketball in our newcomers," head coach Chanda Rigby said. "Two of our returners earned Preseason All-Sun Belt, and all three will have significant roles on and off the court for 2024-25."
Preseason All-Sun Belt Third Team nominee Dyer looks to anchor the Trojans frontcourt after playing in all 34 games last season, including two starts. In her sophomore season, the 6-2 forward averaged 6.1 points and six rebounds per game. Dyer set the tone in her Troy debut, finishing with 11 points and nine rebounds against Ball State. The Georgia State transfer shot 44.1 percent from the field last season. Against Appalachian State on Feb. 28, Dyer scored 20 points and snagged 17 rebounds, which was tied for the team-high on the season.
Guion, a 5-10 guard from Orlando, Florida, returns to Troy for her senior season. Guion shot 34.2 percent from long distance over the season and hit the third most 3-pointers. In 34 games, Guion averaged 5.1 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. She also had 22 steals, including a team-high two against Minnesota in the WNIT Fab 4. Guion logged seven double-digit scoring performances and scored a career-high 18 points in a March 1 win over South Alabama. During the 108-71 win, Guion shot 7-for-9 from the field and drained three shots from beyond the arc.
Wagner is back in Trojan Arena for her senior year after winning the Trojan Tribute Female Newcomer of the Year award in 2023-24 and receiving a Preseason All-Sun Belt Second Team nod. The Wabash Valley transfer started in 25 games and opened her Troy career with three consecutive double-digit scoring performances. At 5-10, she averaged 4.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Wagner's 4.8 assists per game led the team and was the ninth-most in program history. She also led all guards in rebounds per game. No. 13 neared Troy's first-ever triple-double on 12 rebounds, nine points and eight assists at Bowling Green.
The returning Trojans retake the court on Nov. 4 as they travel to Buffalo, N.Y., for the MAC-SBC Challenge.
