Troy Dominates in Singles Competition on Day One of Bobcat Invitational

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Day one of the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday saw Troy women's tennis dominate the competition by going 7-2 in singles play, including a perfect 5-0 in round one at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
Valeriia Avdeeva (7-5, 6-2), Gabrielle Leslie (6-3, 6-4), Maria Guirguis (6-3, 6-2), Hagar Ramadan-Amin (6-1, 6-2) and Emilia Namyslo (6-3, 6-3) all made quick work of their respective opponents from Texas State, Saint Mary's and ULM with sweeps in round one.
Ramadan-Amin continued her onslaught in round two, allowing just two points to Mariia Iordanova from ULM for a second straight sweep, 6-1, 6-1. Avdeeva trailed Ramadan-Amin's dominance by one point as she saw a similar result against St. Mary's Paula Garrote, winning 6-2, 6-1. Meanwhile, Namyslo battled to the end with Smilia Matovic as both players grabbed a set to bring up the tiebreaker. Neither side would give way as the match looked to have no end in sight until Matovic got the final point to win 7-5, 5-6, 12-10.
A perfect 3-0 day culminated in doubles play for Avdeeva as she paired up with fellow junior Guirguis. The pair pushed for a gentlemen's sweep, 6-1, for Troy's lone doubles victory.
Tomorrow sees the final day of action as one more round remains in singles while two rounds remain for doubles.
