Simkin Advances in Singles Main Draw, Martens/Pastor in Doubles at ITA Southern Regional

BATON ROUGE, La. – Nicolas Simkin routed Southern Miss, while Yeray Andres Pastor / Noah Martens defeated UAB at the ITA Southern Regional on Thursday to advance at the LSU Tennis Complex.
Doubles competition started the day with Henrique de Brito / Nicolas Simkin fighting with Mississippi to an 8-7 (7-3) loss while Luciano Alcocer / Hiiro Sakamoto narrowly fell to Jacksonville State, 8-5. The results left Pastor and Martens remaining against UAB's Georgios Nouchakis / Juan Pablo Valdez Huzon. The pair fought to a 7-7 tie, forcing the tiebreaker set with the pair of Trojans routing the Blazers 7-4 for an 8-7 victory.
Simkin set up with Sun Belt Conference foe Olle Noltorp from Southern Miss for the main draw. The graduate student made short work of the fellow SBC member with a 6-2, 6-3 sweep. Henqriue de Brito found redemption after yesterday's qualifying round. De Brito matched with Alabama State in a pickup match and dominated the opposition with a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Competition begins at 9 a.m. in doubles competition for Martens and Pastor.
