TROY, Ala. – With basketball season nearly one month away, the Troy men's and women's basketball programs announce the return of Trojan Madness, scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 5, at 6:30 p.m. in Trojan Arena.
"Trojan Madness is one of our favorite events of the year," head women's basketball coach Chanda Rigby said. "It is a high-energy night when we get to interact with Troy's student groups, sororities and fraternities."
The event is open to everyone as a celebration of the basketball programs and pep rally for the Homecoming football game between the Trojans and Arkansas State, which will take place at 3 p.m. on Oct. 14 at The Vet.
Trojan Madness is headlined by both basketball head coaches, who will welcome and address the fans and events for the evening. Head football coach Jon Sumrall and Troy's captains will also be in attendance to speak and interact with the fans.
Outside of the keynote speakers, the event features a slam dunk contest, a 3-point shootout and the presentation of the SGA Spirit Stick. Throughout the evening, awards will be handed out to the students and organizations in attendance.
"The season is right around the corner, and Trojan Madness is a great way for the student body and fans to get energized for Trojan hoops," head men's basketball coach Scott Cross said. "We have a lot of new faces, but the toughness, defense, grit and energy will still be the same. We believe that Trojan Arena is the best home court atmosphere in the Sun Belt because of the fans, so let's set the tone and pack Trojan Arena."
Both squads debut at Trojan Arena in early November, with the men's team welcoming Fort Lauderdale on Nov. 6, while the women's team takes on Ball State for game one of the MAC-SBC Challenge on Nov. 11.
