Men’s Golf Third Following Day One of Graeme McDowell Invitational

ONEONTA, Ala. – Troy shot even par on Sunday's opening round of the Graeme McDowell Invitational, and the Trojans find themselves in third place of the 13-team field at Limestone Springs. Laurenz Kubin carded an opening round 2-under to sit tied for 10^th as Troy's clubhouse leader.

Playing for the first time as a Trojan, Kubin, a JUCO All-American, carded three birdies around just a single bogey for his round of 70 on Sunday. He balanced his card, picking up one birdie on each of the different hole distances.

Troy is just two shots back of North Alabama for second place, while Lamar is 10 shots in front of the Trojans atop the leaderboard. Jacksonville State (+1) and UAB (+2) round out the top five, while ULM, Louisiana and UTRGV are tied for sixth.

Brantley Scott had an eventful round with four birdies and four bogeys for an even day, good for a tie for 21^stplace, while Gage Carnes is just one short north of par after birdies on two of the par-5 holes, good for a tie for 26^th place.

Jake Springer is tied with Carnes at 1-over after turning in a card with three birdies, while Pablo Gracia is tied for 53^rd place at 3-over despite four birdies on the day. Playing as an individual, Will Simpson is tied for 60^th at 5-over par thanks to an eagle on the par-5 seconds and a pair of birdies on the sixth and seventh as he made the turn at 2-under.

Teams continue play on Monday beginning at 8:30 a.m.
