TROY, Ala. – The 2023-24 women's basketball season kicks off with back-to-back home games in Trojan Arena before embarking on a 10-game nonconference schedule, head coach Chanda Rigby announced Tuesday morning.
"We have a robust pre-conference schedule that will prepare us well to compete for another Sun Belt Championship," Rigby said. "We're extremely excited to get this season kicked off and even more excited to see our fans back in Trojan Arena."
The known MAC-SBC Challenge remains the start date for the Trojans on Nov. 11 when they invite Ball State to Trojan Arena. The stint at home continues into Nov. 14 when Samford travels for the third matchup in the last three seasons.
Troy's first road matchup also stands against its first of four power-five opponents in the nonconference schedule in Tennessee. The Trojans battle the eight-time national champions, who are coming off a Sweet 16 appearance on Nov. 19 in Thompson-Boling Arena.
A 10-day hiatus ends as the Trojans return home for a date with Belmont on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
Back-to-back power-five opponents await Troy the following week – both are first-time meetings. The first matchup pits the Trojans against Memphis on Dec. 2 in Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Then, they head to Athens, Ga., to face the Bulldogs of Georgia, who enter 2023-24 following a second-round exit in the NCAA tournament to the eventual NCAA runners-up in Iowa.
UT-Martin breaks up the long road stand when it heads to Trojan Arena on Dec. 9 to face the Trojans.
The Trojans close the nonconference schedule with three straight road matchups, including their final power-five opponent and third team coming off an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, Iowa State (Dec. 17).
Clarksville, Tenn., is where the Trojans will end the 10-game nonconference slate with the Austin Peay Tournament from Dec. 20-21 against two more first-time opponents. Game one sees Troy face SFA on Wednesday (Dec. 20) before turning around to battle New Mexico State on Thursday (Dec. 21).
Georgia State in Trojan Arena remains Troy's Sun Belt Conference opener on Dec. 30 to close out 2023. 2024 opens on Jan. 4 in Statesboro, Ga. when the Trojans take on Georgia Southern, followed by Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C. (Jan. 6).
The remainder of January sees Troy's schedule split up with four home games and two on the road, highlighted by back-to-back doubleheaders against Louisiana (Jan. 10) and James Madison (Jan. 13).
February opens with Troy on the road for two straight weeks with dates against ULM (Feb. 1), Southern Miss (Feb. 3), Old Dominion (Feb. 7) and the final nonconference game as the second of the MAC-SBC Challenge matchups (Feb. 9).
Another back-to-back doubleheader week has Troy hosting Texas State and ULM on Feb. 15 and Feb. 17, respectively, before hitting the road against Arkansas State (Feb. 21) and in-state rival South Alabama (Feb. 24).
The final regular season weekend places Troy in Trojan Arena for the home finales when it hosts App State (Feb. 28) and South Alabama (March 1) for the second time in one week.
Four days later, the Trojans embark on a six-day war (March 6-11) against the Sun Belt Conference, aiming for their sixth title in nine years.
