MOBILE, Ala. – The Troy women's soccer team picked up its second win of the season in impressive fashion, defeating Kennesaw State 3-0 at the South Alabama Tournament on Thursday night in Mobile, Ala.
Troy (2-1-0) led in nearly every statistical category over Kennesaw State (1-1-1) and grabbed the lead early and never looked back.
Fast Out of the Gates
A lightning delay resulted in the game starting 45 minutes late but that didn't seem to affect the Trojans, who got on the board in the 5th minute thanks to a goal by freshman Carley White. Fellow freshman Tatum Tishler added the assist.
The score stayed 1-0 through the rest of the first half, and Rubie Kelley made two saves to keep the Trojan lead heading into the break.
A Second-Half Eruption
Despite Troy taking the lead in the first half, KSU had the shot advantage 6-4. That quickly changed as the Trojans out-shot the Owls 7-3 in the last 45 minutes.
Gabrielle Chartier scored in the 73rd minute off a free kick to double the Troy lead. It was her second goal of the season. Prior to the goal, KSU picked up a red-card and played the remainder of the game with 10 players.
Evie Anderson took advantage of that and netted her first of the season in the 80th minute of the game to put it away for the Trojans.
Troy registered a season-high 12 corner kicks in the effort.
Thursday's win also marks the second clean sheet of the year for the Trojans, and the first in Kelley's collegiate career. She made five saves, including three in the second half.
Thoughts from Head Coach Stuart Gore
"We didn't play very well in the first half. I thought in the second half we flipped a switch. We went through the gears. They did what they were asked to do."
