Michelle Clayton Inducted into Winston-Salem/Forsyth County High School Sports Hall of Fame

TROY, Ala. – Troy track and field assistant coach for throws and weight training Michelle Clayton became inducted to the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County High School Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2023 on May 1.
Clayton has been with Troy since the 2014-15 season, coaching two All-Americans to second team and honorable mention teams. Both All-Americans came via the discus event, with Corina Cox earning second team in 2015 and Zach Douglas in 2016 with the honorable mention.
In her ninth season with the Trojans, Clayton has coached four Sun Belt Championship individual titles, with her most recent coming in 2021 when Michael Alvernaz dominated the hammer throw event at the 2021 Championships with a 64.08m mark. In the past two seasons alone, Clayton has also coached four All-Sun Belt and five NCAA East Preliminary competitors – coached 16 total NCAA East Preliminary Qualifiers. Last season, she brought Cole Stewart, Marek Taskar and Javon Osbourne to Bloomington, Ind.
The Troy record books are flooded with Clayton's athletes, breaking two records in the 2023 Outdoor season with Javon Osbourne in discus and Biniosa Ezukuse in shot put. She also holds records for indoor in the men's and women's shot put and weight throw. For outdoor, Clayton coached record-breaking performances in the women's discus and shot put and men's discus and hammer.
At East Forsyth, Clayton dominated the throwing events, specifically the shot put and discus. Her senior season saw the 5-6 thrower heave a 12-pound shot put close to 13.33m to hoist the gold for the NCHSAA 4-A State Track and Field Championships. To boost her accolades, Clayton also took home first place in the discus at the championships, ending the event with a throw of 41.33m.
The East Carolina alumni joins James Blackburn (supporter), Llyod Booker (football), Lee Robert Brush (football), William Hayes (mentor), Gregory Holt (baseball), Allison Lippard Morris (soccer, basketball, tennis), Michael Muse (coach), Cecil Oliver Jr. (coach), Jeff Thompson (coach), Sean Vestal (administration) and Timothy White (coach) in the Class of 2023.
