TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball program and head coach Chanda Rigby announced Thursday afternoon the addition of Michigan native Shaulana Wagner to the 2023-24 roster.
"Shaulana is a tremendous addition to our roster," Rigby said. "She delivers huge contributions on both offense and defense. Her specialty, however, is in her skill to get past her defender and push the ball into the interior of the defense. Shaulana is skilled and talented and has a tremendous passion for the game of basketball."
From Detroit, Wagner returns to the Division-I level after playing at Xavier her freshman season before heading to Wabash Valley. In her one season at Xavier, Wagner played 11 games with two starts. She averaged 4.1 points and 2.3 rebounds, with her season-high coming against Seton Hall with an 11-point performance on a 5-of-11 shooting night.
When Wagner transferred to Wabash Valley, she immediately became a star, eventually cementing her name in the history books on Jan. 9, 2023. That night, the 5-10 guard erupted for a program-record 47 points to lead the team to a 91-75 win over Three Rivers College.
Her time as a Lady Warrior wasn't defined by one game as she earned her way to becoming the GRAC and Region 24 Player of the Year, NJCAA Division-I First Team All-American and WBCA First Team All-American on 19.9 points per game. Wagner's game doesn't stop at scoring as she averaged 6.8 rebounds, 7.7 assists and 4.3 steals to bring her team to the NJCAA National Tournament Elite Eight.
