TROY, Ala. – Leanna Johnson and Taylor McKinney swept the Sun Belt Weekly Pitcher and Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday. Johnson's Pitcher of the Week honor is her first of the season and 10th of her career, while McKinney becomes the first repeat Player of the Week in the Sun Belt this season.Â
Â
Johnson, a senior from Brantley, Ala., took to the circle at the Troy Softball Complex for the final time this past weekend and left no doubt about her place in Troy Softball history. She tossed a pair of shutouts with a combined 14 strikeouts in her 13 innings of work.
Â
She tossed 5.1 innings of no-hit ball on Senior Day before allowing her only hit of the game. Johnson struck out four in that contest after sitting down nine Georgia Southern batters in the series opener on Friday.
Â
Friday's victory was the 100th of her career, making her one of just 105 pitchers in NCAA Division I history to reach the century mark for career wins.Â
Â
At the plate, McKinney was a near-impossible out as she hit .714 with an .800 on-base percentage and 1.714 OPS after belting two doubles, a triple and a home run in the sweep of the Eagles.Â
Â
McKinney drove in seven of Troy's 19 runs on the week, scored five runs and reached base in 8-of-10 plate appearances, with 50 percent of her hits going for extra-bases.Â
Â
Troy travels to South Alabama this weekend to close out the regular season. The Trojans can finish as high as No. 2 in the Sun Belt and no worse than as the fifth seed for next week's Sun Belt Tournament in Lafayette, La.
