TROY, Ala. – Postseason at the Peachtree City Tennis Center opens on Wednesday at noon for No. 8 Troy as it aims to continue its successful season against No. 9 Texas State.
A two-loss streak to end the regular season dampened a revitalized season for the Trojans (13-7, 6-5 SBC). But a dominant win earlier in the season, 5-2, over the Bobcats (7-14, 3-8 SBC) keeps the hopes of a Sun Belt Conference Championship alive as the team looks to get back to the win column.
Match Information
Location: Peachtree City, Ga. – Peachtree City Tennis Center
The Matchup: No. 8 Troy (13-7, 6-5 SBC) vs. No. 9 Texas State (7-14, 3-8 SBC)
When: Wednesday, April 26 – 12 p.m.
Regular Season Recap
Two straight losses on the road didn't hinder the Trojans from winning their most matches (13) in a season since 2013-14 at 15 and most conference matches of six since 2009-10. This included their best start in program history through nine matches at 7-2 and the longest win streak in conference play since 2012-13.
The Trojans finished the regular season above .500 in singles and doubles in their dual matches at .596 and .571, respectively. Freshman Maria Guirguis stood above the rest with a team-high 13 wins, including seven against Sun Belt opponents. In doubles, the ultimate pair was Kristina Kukaras / Hagar Ramadan-Amin, who finished as the only duo with double-digit wins (10).
Round One
Texas State clawed its way up to the ninth seed after winning two straight against Louisiana, 4-3, and ULM, 5-2. The Bobcats' last loss came against the Trojans on April 9. The two wins in a weekend for the Bobcats was more than the entirety of the schedule prior, with the only win coming against Georgia State.
After their two-match win streak, Sofia Fortuno remains the top scorer for the Bobcats, becoming the only player with double-digit singles wins at 10. A late change to Fortuno's double partner, which paired her with Maria Lora, has resulted in a perfect 3-0 record to end 2023.
