Women’s Tennis Season Ends Against No. 9 Texas State

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – A 4-0 result at the hands of No. 9 Texas State in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament results in a season-ending loss for the Troy women's tennis team on Wednesday evening at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.
A historic season that saw the Trojans (13-8, 6-5 SBC) win their most games in a single season since 2013-14 at 13 and most conference wins of six since 2009-10 (6) ends in a rematch to the Bobcats (8-15, 3-8 SBC).
The doubles point was a ferocious battle between the programs as the Trojans took court one with a 6-0 win by Hagar Ramadan-Amin / Kristina Kukaras. However, a loss on court three by Maria Guirguis / Franziska Ahrend, 6-2 put all the pressure on court two.
Court two had Andrea Widing / Valeriia Avdeeva battling tough to force a tiebreaker set. Fifty-four minutes after the start of their match, Texas State claimed an 8-6 victory in the tiebreaker to steal the first point, 1-0.
Singles saw Avdeeva (6-1, 6-3) and Elliott (6-0, 6-3) fall early in straight set losses to put the Bobcats one point from victory, 3-0.
Guirguis tried to keep the Trojans alive on court three after going back-and-forth with Kate Malazonia, losing the first set 6-3 before flipping the script with a 6-3 of her own. In the third set, Guirguis hung in, but the Bobcat pulled away to end Troy's season early, 6-2.
Court one had Kukaras battle to win her first set 6-2. A loss in the second set 6-1 and the result by Guirguis resulted in an unfinished match with the score 2-1 in favor of Texas State. Meanwhile on court six, Franziska Ahrend's career ends with a 7-6 (7-3), 5-1 finish as the Bobcats move on after a 4-0 victory.
