Offensive Explosion Leads Troy to Series Victory Over Texas State

It is the first series victory for Troy (28-12, 10-7) over the Bobcats (25-15, 9-8) since 2019. Troy continues climbing the conference standings as they now sit in third place in the Sun Belt and can move up to second by the night's end.
All nine starters had a hit, as three Trojans recorded five RBIs. Caleb Bartolero went 4-for-6 with the second five-RBI game of his career. While Shane Lewis also recorded five RBIs for the third time this season after going 3-for-4 with four runs scored. Lewis hit his 18th home run of the season, matching the Troy record for most home runs in the Bbcor bats era. In addition, Clay Stearns launched two home runs on the day, giving him his first career five-RBI game.
Troy remains a perfect 12-0 on the year when scoring 10 or more runs.
Trojan starter Grayson Stewart (5-2) shut down the Bobcats as he earned his fifth win of the season after going six innings, only allowing one run on four hits while striking out seven.
It was a struggle for Texas State pitching all afternoon. Tony Robie (5-1) had not lost a game all season, but his day was done after one inning of work, giving up five runs on four hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. Six pitchers were used after and didn't fare any better as they combined to walk nine Trojans with only three strikeouts.
The game got out of hand in the bottom of the sixth as the Trojans put up a 10 spot in a single inning for the second time this season. A leadoff walk by Cobb Jr. got the inning started, and from there, Troy used six hits to bat around and put the game out of reach.
It was the first time since February 19, 2022, in the opening series against Holy Cross that the Trojans have scored more than 20 runs. In addition, the 19 hits recorded were the most in a game this season.
Troy was trailing 1-0 after the top of the first but quickly responded and took the lead after Bartolero cleared the bases with his 13th double of the season. Bartolero would finish with two doubles on the day, giving him 14 for the year, which leads the team, and 47 for his career, which puts him in a tie for seventh all-time.
The Trojans move to 12-2 this season after finishing the first inning with a lead.
With six more runs added across the next two innings, it was 10-1 after three. A single by Lewis in the second brought home a run, and in the third, Stearns hit his fourth home run of the season to start the five-run frame.
William Sullivan had a 118 MPH double down the right field line bringing in a run, and came around to score on another Lewis single. With 61 RBIs on the season, Lewis continues to lead the Sun Belt. It is the most by a Trojan since Joey Denison in 2018.
Texas State got to reliever Brandon Schrepf for three runs in the seventh and an unearned run in the ninth off Mason Kenney, but that was all the scoring. Schrepf, Matt Mercer, and Kenney followed Stewart, and each got an inning of work in.
The Trojans will go for the series sweep of the Bobcats on Sunday, April 23, at 11 a.m. Fans can catch the broadcast on ESPN+ and 96.7 FM beginning at 11:30.
