Troy Drops Series Finale with Texas State

With one swing of the bat, Caleb Bartolero put the Trojans ahead in the bottom of the eighth, hitting his 10th home run of the season. The two-run shot gave Troy that 5-4 advantage in the ninth, but the offense was unable to overcome the four-run deficit in the bottom half.
Bartolero's home run was the third home run of the game for the Trojans (28-13,10-8). Kole Myers hit his ninth in the bottom of the third to tie the ball game at 2-2. Tremayne Cobb Jr. made it a one-run game in the seventh as he hit a solo shot to spark the offense.
Chase Mora and Rashawn Galloway each had two RBIs for Texas State (26-15, 10-8), as the Bobcat hitters were patient at the plate, walking nine times.
Logan Ross made his third start of the season and went five innings, allowing four runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Ben Thompson (4-1) gets the loss as he could not finish the game. Thompson went 3.2 innings allowing only one hit but walked four to go along with five strikeouts.
That one hit proved to be costly as it brought home the game-tying run. Noah Manning came on to try and keep things tied but hit the first batter he faced and walked in another as Texas State took the lead and didn't look back.
Zeke Wood started for Texas State and went four innings, striking out six while giving up one earned run on three hits. Despite allowing the go-ahead home run from Bartolero, Triston Dixon (3-1) gets the win after 1.2 innings of work, finishing with three strikeouts and two hits.
For the third straight game, Texas State took the lead in the first, putting two runs across. Just as they had done the previous two games, Troy responded with a run of their own. Myers made his way to third base after a walk, stolen base, and throwing error by the catcher. Donovan Whibbs capitalized with an RBI single to cut the lead in half.
After Myers's home run to tie the game in the third, the Bobcats scratched across two more runs in the top of the fourth to regain a two-run advantage.
Cobb's home run in the seventh started the second comeback of the afternoon as his solo shot just snuck in fair down the right-field line. But before Bartolero gave Troy the lead in the eighth, it looked like a much bigger inning was in store. William Sullivan got hit by a pitch to lead things off and was followed by a double by Shane Lewis; Sullivan got a bit too aggressive rounding third and was thrown out trying to get back.
A four-game road trip begins with Troy traveling to in-state foe Auburn for a midweek matchup on Tuesday, April 25, at 6 p.m.
