With 54 runs batted in this year, Shane Lewis has the most by a Trojan since 2019 when Sadler Goodwin had 56. Lewis, along with leading the Sun Belt Conference in RBIs, is also the league leader in home runs with 16. Three more home runs would give Lewis the Troy record for most home runs in a season during the Bbcor era. The current record is 18 home runs in a season held by three players, with the last time coming in 2013 by Trae Santos.
Last season the Trojan pitching staff led the Sun Belt Conference in strikeouts with 520. That was the fourth most by a staff in program history. In 2023 through 38 games, Troy pitchers have stuck out 410 batters. Averaging 11.2 strikeouts per game, Troy ranks eighth in the nation in the category, while three of the top ten strikeout leaders in the Sun Belt are Trojans.
Brady Fuller and Grayson Stewart will look to make it back-to-back starts with a win as both saw victory in their last outing over Louisiana. Fuller, who will get his regular start on Friday, is 3-3 on the year and matched his season high in strikeouts with 10 last week. Stewart, who retired the first 12 batters he faced taking a no-hitter into the sixth, will bring his team-low 3.66 ERA to his Saturday start.
Know the Foe: Texas State
Texas State won its fifth consecutive game with a 5-3 win at I-35 rival and 25th-ranked UTSA on Tuesday. It is the longest win streak of the season for the Bobcats. Friday starter Levi Wells put together a career performance last Friday against Marshall with a complete game victory that saw him strikeout a career-high 13. His performance earned him Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season and fourth in his career, along with being named one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week.
