Second Half of Outdoor Season Starts at Samford

TROY, Ala. – The tilt to the second half of the outdoor track & field season begins when Troy heads back to Birmingham for Samford's Alabama Track Challenge from April 13-14 at the Cameron Bean Track.
Thursday is the light day with competition starting at 2:30 p.m. with the multi-events for men and then women. The day ends with the longest distance race of the event on the 10,000m at 6 p.m. The final day of Friday opens at 10 a.m. with the conclusion of multi-events and ends at 6:25 p.m. at the 4x400m relay.

Troy ended the South Florida Invitational with 22 competitors taking the podium and seven hoisting the gold. Four won on the women's side in Biniosa Ezukuse, Lauren Locke, Tanner Guest and Shanyah Washington, while Jasai Taylor and Morgan Reese grabbed a pair for the men. Overall, Sun Belt Field Player of the Week Javon Osbourne shined with two wins of his own in the field events.
Osbourne had the perfect day in Tampa, Fla., competing in the discus and shot put events. A member of flight two for discus, Osbourne competed with fellow Trojan Anthony Symile, but the competition stood no chance with the sophomore launching to the 58.47m mark – second place ended at 51.65m. The dominance continued into the shot put event, where he saved the best for last on a 17.49m throw for the gold.
Shanyah Washington was close to a perfect day in the 100m dash events. Solo, the freshman put together a time of 11.56, which outpaced the competition by 0.10 seconds for first. Then, she joined forces with Naveyh Frost, Kierra Montgomery and Maya Kelly in the relay to grab third at 45.45.
