Javon Osbourne Earns Sun Belt Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

TROY, Ala. – A two-time winner at the South Florida Invitational this past weekend earned Javon Osbourne Sun Belt Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday morning.
"Javon has been the most consistent performer this year," director of track & field/cross country Marc Davis said. "He wants to be good. No, he wants to be great. He puts in the time, and the results show week after week. Proud of him and his accomplishments."
The sophomore, who has already earned two wins in 2023, matched it with wins in the discus and shot put events.
In the discus event, the Clarendon, Jamaica native was a member of flight two. Osbourne dominated the competition, outthrowing second place by 6.82 meters with a final mark of 58.47m. The first-place efforts launched a personal record for Osbourne, who also moved to second and 10th in 2023 on the event leaderboard for the SBC and region, respectively.
A former Kingston College student, Osbourne carried the hot start into the shot put event. Before the meet, Osbourne peaked at the Weems Baskin Invitational for second at 17.45m. But on his final attempt, the 6-4 thrower launched to surpass his season-best at 17.49m for the gold – maintained third in the event for the league and 37th in the region for 2023.
Osbourne looks to carry the momentum into tomorrow at Samford's Alabama Track Challenge from April 13-14.
