Quick Start Propels Troy to Back-to-Back Wins

TROY, Ala. – After one match in both singles and doubles were automatically scored in Troy's favor due to injury; the team secured a 5-2 victory over Georgia State on Saturday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
With back-to-back wins at Lunsford, Troy (10-5, 3-3 SBC) captures its third win streak to improve to .500 in SBC record. Meanwhile, the Panthers (1-13, 1-4 SBC) still search for answers after their fourth straight loss.
Knowing court three was secured in doubles, Troy needed one doubles win to secure the match's first point. However, GSU wasn't giving it easy as Troy graduate Michelle Ncube and Pragnya Kumar swept Andrea Widing / Valeriia Avdeeva 6-0. A 1-1 split left Hagar Amin / Kristina Kukaras on court two. Things stayed close, but the pair of Trojans secured the win, 6-4.
With court six won by default, Troy needed two points for the win, and Maria Guirguis ensured it came quickly on court four. Set one saw the freshman dominate, 6-1, before handily taking the second, 6-3.
GSU fired back with back-to-back wins in singles to bring it within one, 3-2, as courts one and three went the opposition's way.
Franziska Ahrend ended the momentum where it stood on court five. Both sets went the graduate student's way, 6-3, 6-3, to secure the victory for herself and Troy – third straight victory for Ahrend.
The exclamation point came on court two through Amin over Maria Parades. A dominating first set saw Amin take the advantage 6-2. Set two was a grudge match between the two, needing a tiebreaker to decide the match. Neither side took complete control, but it was Amin pulling ahead, 7-6 (7-5).
