Â
TROY, Ala. – Winners in five of its last six games, the Troy Softball team returns to Jacksonville, Fla., for the second straight weekend in the Trojans' final tune-up before Sun Belt Conference action starts. Troy has five games on tap at the Spring Break Challenge hosted by North Florida.
Â
Troy (15-7) went 4-1 last weekend in a tournament co-hosted by UNF and knocked off Alabama State on Wednesday night. The Trojans' games this weekend wrap up a stretch where they will have played 17-of-18 games away from home; Troy is 9-3 so far during that run.
Â
The Trojans open play against Army (5-11) at 1 p.m. on Friday and follow that with Northern Kentucky (4-12)Â at 3:30 p.m. Saturday's schedule features the same two opponents before Troy takes on North Florida (11-6) to close out play Sunday.
Â
Anslee Finch continues to mash the softball for the Trojans, as the reigning Sun Belt Hitter of the Week had two more doubles in Wednesday's win at Alabama State. The Trojans enter the weekend third in the Sun Belt with 27 doubles, while Finch is second in the Sun Belt and 39th nationally with an .814 slugging percentage.
Â
Leanna Johnson watch is officially on as the Trojan senior is closing in on a pair of milestones. She is just six victories shy of her 94th career win, which would set the Troy career record, while Johnson is just 41 strikeouts away from 1,000 in her career. She is second among active players, behind only Alabama's Montana Fouts, in career strikeouts.
Â
Finch is one of six Trojans hitting over the .300 mark on the year as she bats at a .407 clip, with Libby Baker's .365 average and Taylor McKinney's .344 mark close behind. Those three have combined for 31 extra-base hits, including 14 home runs.
