TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team opens Sun Belt Conference play Saturday hosting James Madison at the Lunsford Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
Troy (12-2) has won 12 of its last 13 matches on the strength of its play in singles. The Trojans have won 73.7 percent of their singles matches during the dual portion of the schedule, with five players entering this weekend's action on winning streaks of three or more.
Mario Martinez Serrano and Carles Anton have dominated the upper courts combining for a 22-4 record on courts one and two, with both players in double-digit victories. Martinez, a freshman, is 20-5 overall this year, including tournament play in the fall.
Noah Martens has been a strong boost for the Trojans' lineup, with a 7-1 record between courts four and five since he rejoined the team after missing three weeks of play. Another freshman in head coach Rolando Vargas' lineup, Yeray Andres Pastor, has turned his game up lately winning five straight to boost his record to 9-3 this spring.
Vito Llinares is 5-2 closing things out for Vargas on court six this spring, while Jules Fabre and Francisco Erramuspe have mixed into the lineup as well.
The Trojans are still trying to figure themselves out in doubles, where they have posted a 58.3 winning percentage this spring.
