Troy Obtains Third Straight Sweep

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team has swept its opponent for the third consecutive match. Wednesday afternoon, the Trojans dominated, 7-0, over Alabama State at the Althea Gibson Tennis Complex.
A third straight win for the Trojans (7-1) continues their best start in recorded history as they conclude the nonconference road schedule a perfect 3-0.
A 6-1 result on courts one and two gave Troy its first point of the game, 1-0, when the pairs of Olivia Elliott / Andrea Widing and Hagar Amin / Kristina Kukaras grabbed their respective wins.
The freshman continued Troy's dominance, starting on court five with Guirguis overpowering Claudia Orsini, 6-2, 6-2. The Trojans were one point from clinching, 3-0, when Avdeeva followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win.
Kristina Kukaras clinched match point for the second straight time on court one. After taking the first set, 6-4, the junior fought to a 6-6 tie before dominating the tiebreaker set, 7-1, to take the win, 4-0.
The remaining points came via Franziska Ahrend, Amin and Elliott as all three battled through their matches. Ahrend won the first set, 6-3, before falling in the second 6-4. In the third set, the senior grabbed a 6-4 win for Troy's fifth point. Then, Amin battled from losing her first set, 6-2, to dominate the second and third, 6-1, 6-2. Lastly, Elliott dominated the first set, 6-3. Then, after falling 6-4, she reversed the roles for a 6-4 win in the third and final set, 7-0.
