TROY, Ala. – Coming off a successful two-game road trip, the Troy women's basketball team returns to Trojan Arena Thursday night for a matchup against Arkansas State in the opener of a doubleheader with the Troy men's team. Tip-off is slated for 5:15 p.m.
Â
The world-famous ZOOPerstars will perform at halftime, the first 750 Troy students will receive a free cardinal foam sword, the donut bacon cheeseburger is back in the concession stands and all soft drinks are $2.
Â
Additionally, Thursday's game is Troy's annual Play4Kay game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. There will be a silent auction featuring an autographed Troy pink uniform, autographed basketball, Troy Adidas gear, pink Adidas shoes plus more items which will be open through halftime of the men's game on the concourse overlooking the practice gym. Special t-shirts will also be available for $10 with all proceeds going to Play4Kay.
Â
The Trojans (15-8, 10-2 SBC) faced a stiff road test last week, playing two teams directly behind them in the conference standings. Troy passed the test with flying colors coming away with two wins and now a two-game lead in the league over a cluster of five teams tied for second with just six games remaining in the regular season.
Â
Tai'Sheka Porchia made her presence known in both games scoring 28 points and pulling down 15 rebounds in Thursday's win at Texas State and then hit the game-winning shot with 1.8 seconds remaining in overtime at Louisiana on Saturday as part of a 12-point, 12-rebound effort.
Â
Despite facing the top two defenses in the Sun Belt, Troy extended its nation-leading streak of games with 75-plus points to 16 straight contests after scoring 84 against Texas State – allows just 57.4 per game – and 81 against Louisiana – allows just 56.3 per game.
Â
The Trojans shot identical marks of 31-of-71 in both games last week and have now made 30 or more buckets in seven of the last eight games while holding their opponents to less than 40 percent shooting in eight of the last 11 games.
Â
Arkansas State (7-16, 2-10) split its games last week, winning at Coastal Carolina on Thursday before dropping a home contest to Old Dominion on Saturday. The Red Wolves are led by Izzy Higginbottom's 14.3 points and Lauryn Pendleton's 12.1 points per game.
Â
Troy handed Arkansas State an 83-67 loss on Jan. 5 in Jonesboro behind strong offensive performances from Nia Daniel (17 points) and Makayia Hallmon (15 points), while Amber Leggett added 12 points and six rebounds in her first game.
