Men’s Tennis Rolls to Fifth Straight Win

TROY, Ala. – Armed with a key reinforcement, the Troy men's tennis team rolled past Alcorn State, 7-0, Friday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex for its fifth straight win.
Sophomore Noah Martens returned to the lineup for the first time this spring, and after shaking off some early rust, rallied for a three-set victory (3-6, 7-6 (4), 10-4) to close out the sweep for Troy (5-1). Francisco Erramuspe won for the fourth straight time to give the Trojans a 3-0 lead, and Vito Llinares bounced back from his first loss of the spring to clinch the match.
Taking out Martens' first match of the year, Troy yielded just 13 games across the five other singles courts, including freshman Mario Martinez Serrano's 6-0, 6-0 win on court one and Llinares' 6-1, 6-1 win on court five. Erramuspe surrendered just three games, including a clean sheet in the first set, while Jules Fabre won 6-1, 6-3 on court two, and Yeray Andres Pastor won 6-3, 6-1 on court three.
Following Friday's match, Troy is now 10-1 combined on courts one and two and 5-0 on the year on court six.
Erramuspe and Andres cruised to a 6-1 on court three in doubles, while Llinares and Martens won 6-3 to put the doubles point in Troy's column. Martinez and Fabre made it a clean sweep with a 7-6 win on court one.
After five straight home matches, Troy hits the road for the first time since the opening weekend for a matchup against Tennessee State on Sunday, which will be played indoors at Vanderbilt at 1 p.m.
