TROY, Ala. – Fresh off a top-two showdown and victory Thursday night, the Troy women's basketball team travels to Louisiana on Saturday for another matchup against a team right behind it in the Sun Belt standings.
Troy (14-8, 9-2 SBC) rallied from nine points down in the fourth quarter to fend off Texas State, 84-78, and maintain its spot at the top of the league standings. The Trojans entered the matchup a game up on the Bobcats and now have a two-game lead and the head-to-head tiebreaker advantage.
Saturday's battle in the Cajun Dome, which tips at 2 p.m., is the same situation as Louisiana (14-9, 8-3) is a game back of Troy after its win over in-state rival ULM on Thursday.
The Trojans knocked off the, 85-78, in overtime on January 14 in Trojan Arena in what has been a back-and-forth series compared to Troy's other Sun Belt opponents. While Troy holds significant winning streaks against most of the league, the Cajuns have won two of the last five meetings with the Trojans.
Tai'Sheka Porchia led Troy with 28 points and 15 rebounds in the victory over Texas State, while Ja'Mia Hollings added her third straight double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Troy has won nine of its last 10 Sun Belt road games, with its only loss a 1-point setback two weeks ago at James Madison. Overall, the Trojans have won nine of their last 10 games, and Troy has lost just four games since the start of December, two in overtime and two by a combined three points.
The Trojans enter the weekend ranked among the nation's leaders in rebounds (51.5), offensive rebounds (21.5), scoring (83.0) and steals (11.9) – Troy ranks in the top 10 in all four categories.
Louisiana has won five straight games and seven of its last eight, with the lone loss the overtime setback in Trojan Arena. The Cajuns lead the league holding opponents to just 54.9 points per game in league play; the Trojans are averaging a Sun Belt-best 84.2 points offensively.
