TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's basketball program prepares to embark on another journey towards a Sun Belt title on Monday afternoon when it invites West Alabama to Trojan Arena.
At 6 p.m., the women's team follows the men's basketball team in Trojan Arena as head coach Chanda Rigby begins her 12th season at the helm.
Game Information
Location: Troy, Ala. – Trojan Arena
The Matchup: Troy vs. West Alabama
When: Monday, Nov. 6 – 6 p.m.
New-Look Trojans
The Trojans return eight players while bringing in five newcomers for a 13-player roster. Troy attacked the transfer portal with an emphasis on its SBC foes and JUCO programs. From the Sun Belt, Rigby secured Leilani Augmon from Arkansas State and Zay Dyer from Georgia State. Meanwhile, JUCO programs brought Shaulana Wagner, Sara Carvajal Caro and Leilani Guion.
Troy also brings in a switch in its coaching staff with the addition of assistant coach Stephanie Murphy. Murphy joins an elite Troy staff that's seen three titles over the last seven seasons. She joins the D-I level after being a head coach for five seasons at Coahoma Community College, recording a 48-10 record in her final three seasons.
Upperclassmen dominate the Troy roster, making up all but two spots in Shaniah Nunn and Dyer as sophomores.
With the upcoming tip-off, the Trojans remain the program with a target on their back after being voted second in the Preseason Coaches Poll, receiving three first-place votes. They also have three players that the league has on notice after Makayia Hallmon earned Preseason All-Sun Belt First team, while Tai'Sheka Porchia and Ja'Mia Hollings earned second team.
West Alabama Comes to Town
Julia Rodriguez and Shayla Golden led the Tigers in their first exhibition game against South Alabama, scoring eight points despite falling 70-30. Golden also managed to lead the program in rebounds at nine.
The Tigers shot 21.2 from the field and 16.7 percent from deep while allowing the Jaguars to shoot 44.3 from the field and 28.6 percent from deep.
