Making Their Mark
Despite the difficult road trip for the Trojans, many of the newcomers continued to impress. None more than freshman Thomas Dowd, who made his first career start on Friday against the Beavers. He had a career-high 22 points on 7-12 shooting, including 5-7 from three. The 22 points are the most scored by a Trojan in a game this season. Included in Dowd's impressive performance was a game-tying, banked-in three-pointer as time expired in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Tayton Conerway continues to provide strong offense off the bench, averaging 13 points per game in only 16.7 minutes. He is also shooting a team-high 50 percent from the field.
Conerway and the bench have helped fuel the Trojan offense early in the year. Troy has scored 100 bench points so far this season and has led the bench point category in each game this year. They outscoring opponents benches 100-42.
The newcomers aren't just scoring either, Dowd and JUCO transfer Theo Seng are second and third on the team in rebounding. Randarius Jones – is fourth in rebounding and is scoring 5.7 points per game.
Scouting the Eagles
Tyler Smith is leading the charge for the Reinhardt offense, averaging 18.3 points per game so far this season. Nate Jones is second on the team in scoring with 13 points.
The Eagles got off to a slow start this season as they struggled in the first two games against Freed-Hardeman University and Truett-McConnell University – both losses – but they picked up their first win of the season on Saturday against Tennessee Wesleyan University.
