TROY, Ala. – After falling behind 3-0 to open the game, the Troy offense erupted on a 25-0 run and never looked back as it defeated Reinhardt 111-46 at Trojan Arena on Tuesday night.
After two road losses last week, Troy (2-2) shot a blistering 54.8 percent from the field en route to its 65-point win over Reinhardt – its largest margin of victory since 2003 when Troy defeated Oakwood 140-66. It's also the first time the Trojans have scored in triple-figures since Nov. 23, 2022, when they scored 118 against SUNO.
The Trojans were led by newcomer Marcus Rigsby Jr., who scored a team-high and career-high 15 points. Rigsby Jr. scored 10 of those points in the first half. He finished the night 5-10 from the field and 3-7 from three.
Also joining Rigsby Jr. in double figures were Theo Seng and Tayton Conerway, with 14 points each. Seng's 14 points is a new career high, and Conerway has now scored in double figures in all four games this season. Christyon Eugene scored 11 and Jackson Fields also added 10 points – tying a career-high – on 5-6 shooting.
Smothering Defense
In addition to the impressive offensive showing from the Trojans, the Troy defense was just as dominant as they held Reinhardt to 27.1 percent from the field. Tuesday marked the second time this season Troy has held an opponent under 50 points.
For the fourth time in as many games, Troy has won the rebounding battle. Troy's 51 rebounds are its most on the glass since they grabbed 53 against Jacksonville State in 2021. Randarius Jones led the way with eight boards. Randi Ovalle and Myles Rigsby each had seven.
With Braydon Whitaker leading the charge, the Trojans also had a season-high 16 steals on the night. Whitaker had four, and Rigbsy Jr. had three. The Trojans won the turnover battle 12-27 and scored 39 points off those turnovers compared to Reinhardt's 5.
A Team Effort
Depth continued to be a strong factor for the Trojans. They came into the game with exactly 100 points from the bench this season and nearly doubled that number tonight by scoring 69 points off the bench.
Of Troy's five double-figure scorers, three of them came off the bench (Seng, Eugene and Fields).
The Trojans dished out 25 assists – a season high. Conerway had a team-high six. Aamer Muhammad had five.
Thoughts From Coach
Head coach Scott Cross gave his thoughts following the game:
"It was good. It was definitely a step in the right direction. We wanted to build off the Oregon State game. That's the goal each and every game, we need to continue to get better. I thought we did make some strides tonight. Obviously, we only turned it over 12 times. We did a great job on the boards. Our guys really shared the ball. I thought we played solid defense. Definitely a step in the right direction."
