TROY, Ala. - Head coach Adam Howard has rounded out his initial Troy roster with the addition of Northern Kentucky transfer Donovan Oday, announced Friday.
Oday comes to Troy following a breakout year in his lone season with the Norse, averaging 18.6 points en route to earning Horizon League All-League Second Team honors.
"We're excited to welcome Donovan to our Troy basketball family," Howard said. "Donovan brings experience, athleticism and a proven ability to score that will strengthen our backcourt. His ability to attack the basket and play through contact fits the way we want to play."
An Arlington, Texas native, Oday scored 30-plus points on three occasions last season, including a career-high 38 points against Robert Morris. Oday recorded 12 games with at least 20 points and finished with fewer than 10 points in just one game.
"Coach Darrin Horn and his staff at Northern Kentucky deserve a lot of credit for the development and growth he had in his one season with the Norse," added Howard. "We're excited to build on that foundation and help Donovan continue to grow while pursuing championships here at Troy."
In addition to his scoring, Oday averaged 3.8 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.9 assists and 0.5 blocks per game. He was one of just two players in college basketball last year, alongside Vanderbilt's Tyler Tanner, to finish the season with at least 600 points, 130 rebounds and 60 steals while shooting at least 33.0 percent from 3-point range and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line.
Prior to Northern Kentucky, Oday spent two seasons at Cal State Fullerton. He put together a breakout 2024-25 season, averaging 12.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 0.9 steals per game. He scored a season-high 29 points against Hawaii while also adding four rebounds and four steals.
During his first season at Fullerton, Oday averaged 7.1 points and 2.0 rebounds while seeing action in all 32 of the Titans' games. He reached double figures in scoring on 10 occasions while dropping 16 points against Nebraska.
The 6'2" guard began his collegiate career at McNeese, where he finished the season with a stat line of 4.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.
Oday attended Mansfield Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas, where he was named to All-State and All-Region Tournament teams. He earned First Team All-District 8-5A honors and helped lead his team to a state championship in 2020.
