ATLANTA – Coming off one of the best freshman seasons in Sun Belt history, Troy's Mario Martinez Serrano finished his fall season in high fashion, winning the UTR Pro Tennis Tour Americas Atlanta Tournament.
Martinez, who was the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and Sun Belt Player to Watch last season, defeated Kennesaw State's Raul Garcia in three sets (4-6, 6-1, 6-1) in the semifinals before knocking off Ian Mayew, 6-4, 6-3, to win the title.
He finished his time in Atlanta with a 5-1 record, winning 11 sets while dropping just three sets across his six matches.
Against a tough fall schedule that featured the ITA All-American and ITA Southern Regional, Martinez finished his fall campaign with a 7-3 mark across his singles matches.
