Troy Women’s Tennis Has Strong First Day at Roberta Alison Fall Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team had a strong first day of competition at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic hosted by Alabama.
Action got underway with the first round of doubles play on Friday morning, in which the Trojans went 1-2. The duo of Valeriia Avdeeva and Olivia Elliott picked up a 6-4 win over Chattanooga's Madlena Orlova and Emma Pedretti in the Ashley Bentley Doubles Draw.
In the Erin Routliffe Doubles Draw Alabama's Margaux Maquet and Anna Parkhomenko defeated Kristina Kukaras and Maria Guirguis, 6-1. In the Mary Macfarlane Doubles Draw Annalisa Smith and Klara Kajabova of UAB defeated Hagar Ramadan-Amin and Leena Metwally, 6-1.
The first two rounds of singles play also concluded on Friday.
In the first round the Trojans went 5-1. Kukaras picked up a major win over Clemson's Alex Antilla, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, in the Alba Cortina Singles Draw. Ramadan-Amin grabbed a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over South Alabama's Mannal Ennaciri in the Dominique Wilkens Singles Draw. Gabrielle Leslie defeated Annie Holt of Samford, 6-1, 6-1, in the Danielle Spielmann Singles Draw. Metwally defeated Samford's Lauren Waddles, 2-6, 7-6, 6-0, in the Melissa Minor Draw. Avdeeva defeated Tulane's Brooke Theis, 5-7, 7-6 (3), 7-5, in the Robin Stephenson Singles Draw.
Tulane's Cora Barber defeated Guirguis, 7-6 (4), 6-3, in the Emily Zabor Singles Draw.
In the second round of action, Leslie picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alabama's Sydney Orefice to advance to the finals of the Danielle Spielmann Singles Draw.
Guirguis had a strong rebound after dropping her first-round match, and defeated Samford's Margaret Jaracsewski, 2-6, 6-2 (10-5).
Kukaras fought hard in a three-set battle, but fell to Ole Miss's Rachel Krzyak, 6-0, 3-6, 7-5. Sean Mullen of Tulane defeated Metwally, 6-4, 6-2. Elliott, who received a first-round bye, was defeated by Chattanooga's Margaret Manolache, 6-3, 6-1. Hagar Ramadan-Amin fell in a three-set joust to Ole Miss's Lucie Devier, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2. Maja Pietrowicz of Nebraska defeated Avdeeva, 6-3, 6-2.
The second and third round of doubles is set to get underway on Saturday morning. The third round of singles will follow shortly after.
