Troy Falls to Conference Foe, Historic Streak Snapped

MOBILE, Ala. – Troy saw its 11-match winning streak come to an end Thursday night with a 3-0 (25-15, 27-25, 25-17) loss at South Alabama in Jaguar Gym on Thursday night; it was Troy's first Sun Belt loss of the season.
Troy (12-9, 10-1 SBC) was led by Tori Hester, who recorded 11 kills, one ace, six digs and four blocks. Amiah Butler followed her with nine kills and one block.
In the second set, the Trojans and the Jaguars traded points until Sara Bates recorded three aces in a row to give the Trojans their biggest lead of the match at 20-17. The Jaguars battled back behind Maddie Soboleski, who recorded the final point of the set to seal the Jaguars win at 27-25.
Janelle Stuempfig handed out 30 assists and recorded nine digs. Meanwhile, defensively, Jaci Mesa recorded 16 digs.
South Alabama (18-5, 9-2 SBC) was led by Hannah Maddux, who recorded 12 kills. Defensively, Kailey Keeble racked up 12 digs, while Niki Capizzi recorded 10 blocks at the net. The Jaguars out-blocked the Trojans with 17 blocks as opposed to Troy's six.
The Trojans will close out the series against South Alabama tomorrow, Friday October 26, at 6 p.m.

Notes- Sara Bates recorded a season-high of four aces, her previous being two against Arkansas State (10/14/23).

- Tori Hester extended her streak of recording an ace to 13 matches.
- The Trojan offense recorded their lowest hitting percentage of league play at .107 during the match.
- The 11-match win streak is the longest win streak in program history - the previous being nine matches by the 1994 and 2022 squads.
- This is the fourth season under head coach Josh Lauer that the Trojans put together a win streak of six or more matches.
