TROY, Ala. — The Troy volleyball team nearly completed a reverse sweep on Saturday, ultimately falling short in five sets (22-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-15, 15-8).

The highly competitive match featured 30 ties and 10 lead changes in a back-and-forth battle. After dropping the first two sets, Troy mounted a fierce comeback, hitting .323 and .300 in the next two frames to force a deciding set. However, the Trojans' first five-set match of the season got away from them quickly in the final frame as they fell into an early deficit they couldn't overcome.

Troy (6-5, 1-1) dominated behind the service line, piling up 11 aces across five different players. Kalina Calvillo led the serving attack with four aces — including three straight — while Olivia Kwiatkowski filled the stat sheet, nearly recording a double-double with nine kills, 18 digs, three blocks, and an assist.

Louisiana (6-9, 1-1) capitalized on efficient scoring despite being outscored overall. The Ragin' Cajuns' defense came through down the stretch, recording four of their 15 total blocks in the final set to lock up the match.

Set 1 — Troy 22, Louisiana 25
Troy showcased a well-rounded attack in the first set as four different players recorded three kills each. While the Trojans carried a 15-13 lead into the media break, Louisiana answered with a late 5-0 run to secure the opening set.

Set 2 — Troy 23, Louisiana 25
Troy spent the majority of the second frame playing from behind, weathering several six-point deficits along the way. The Trojans mounted a strong rally to take a late 19-17 advantage, but were unable to sustain the momentum, falling behind 0-2 in the match after dropping the set.

Set 3 — Troy 25, Louisiana 22
A back-and-forth third set featured 10 ties and two lead changes as both teams went blow-for-blow. Tied at 19-19, Troy grabbed momentum on Kalina Calvillo's 10th kill of the match. The Trojans quickly added two straight points to force a Louisiana timeout before charging ahead to claim the frame.

Set 4 — Troy 25, Louisiana 15
The fourth set opened in familiar tight fashion, with both teams trading points early. A 3-0 surge highlighted by back-to-back aces from Brooke Forkum pushed Troy ahead 9-6 and forced a Louisiana timeout. Powered by stellar hitting and five total service aces in the set, the Trojans closed out on a dominant 16-6 run to force a deciding fifth set.

Set 5 — Troy 8, Louisiana 15
Playing in their first five-set match of the season, the Trojans hit a wall in the final frame after falling into an early 2-8 deficit. Louisiana's defense dominated down the stretch, holding Troy to a season-low single-set hitting performance with just three kills to thwart the Trojans' comeback bid.

"Tough night, but we showed a little bit of fight out there to get back in that match," Lauer said. "Louisiana came out aggressive, played really free and put a lot of pressure on us. We got back in it there in the third set, played a good clean fourth set but the fifth set got away from us early. We made some aggressive plays that just missed and got a little bit too far behind in a short set. First five-set match for this group so there's a lot to learn."
