Â
TROY, Ala. – Winners of two straight, the Troy women's basketball team takes its six-game Sun Belt Conference road winning streak up the road to Atlanta on Saturday for a matchup with Georgia State. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. (CT), and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Â
Troy (7-7, 2-1) evened its overall record thanks to its second straight double-digit victory as the Trojans knocked off Arkansas State, 83-67, Thursday night in Jonesboro. It was Troy's 11th straight win in the series and the Trojans' 13th road conference win in their last 14 tries.
Â
The win over the Red Wolves was intriguing for multiple reasons. Nia Daniel continued her torrid start scoring 17 points as she reached double-figures for the ninth time in 12, and Janeen Camp added eight points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.
Â
The other story of the night was the return of senior forward Amber Leggett. The former Southland Conference Player of the Year at Sam Houston State and third-team All-Sun Belt selection for the Trojans last year had initially planned on retiring from basketball following last season. However, she made a surprise return against Arkansas State and scored 12 points with six rebounds in 13 minutes.
Â
The addition of Camp to the starting lineup the last two games has allowed the Trojans to regain control of the paint. After being outscored by a 30-point margin against Southern Miss, Troy bounced back to dominate the paint against Texas State and Arkansas State by a combined 74-32 tally.
Â
Additionally, the Trojans have ramped up their defensive effort the last five games holding three of those opponents to less than 35 percent shooting, including a 33 percent performance by Arkansas State.
Â
Offensively, Troy has topped the 75-point mark in seven straight games for the second time in six seasons and have hit 70 points in all but two games this year.
Â
Georgia State (8-8, 2-1) has won four of its last five games, including a pair of Sun Belt victories over ULM and South Alabama. The Panthers are one of the top defensive teams in the league, ranking fourth allowing just 58.1 points per game; they've allowed more than 75 points just once this year (Clemson). Deasia Merrill leads the Panthers and ranks ninth in the league averaging 14.1 points per game.
