Men’s Tennis Wins Fourth Straight

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team defeated West Alabama, 5-2, Tuesday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex for its fourth straight win of the season.

The Trojans (4-1) won five of the six singles matches, including freshman Jules Fabre picking up his first win of the season after Troy got off to a slow start on the doubles courts. In singles, Carles Anton rallied for a three-set victory on court two to remain undefeated (4-0) on the season, while Mario Martinez Serrano won for the fourth time this spring.

Martinez tied the match at 1-1 with his 6-2, 6-1 victory on court one, and Yeray Andres Pastor quickly followed behind with a 6-2, 6-0 win on court five to push Troy in front, 2-1. Then, Francisco Erramuspe won for the third straight time with a 6-2, 6-1 victory on court six to pull Troy within one point of clinching the match at 3-1.

Anton was responsible for putting the match in the win column for the Trojans with a 5-7, 6-0, 7-5 win on court two. Anton and Martinez's victories pushed Troy's record to a combined 8-1 on courts one and two this spring. Fabre, who joined the team in January, won 7-6 (4), 6-4 on court four to close out the match for the Trojans.

Troy will take some time off before hosting Alcorn State on Friday, Feb. 3, at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
