TROY, Ala. – Troy women's tennis head coach Rawia Elsisi announced Wednesday evening that her program signed Leena Metwally from Egypt to begin the class of 2023 signings.
"I had the opportunity to meet Leena and her family during my visit to Egypt," Rawia said. "We are super excited that she chose Troy. I am looking forward to officially welcoming her to our Troy family this upcoming fall."
Metwally was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, where she developed to become one of Egypt's Under-18 top four. She also ranked No. 395 in International Tennis Federation Juniors after claiming three ITF titles. Two of her titles came through doubles competition after making it to the final round three times. In singles, Metwally seized one championship with three finals appearances.
As a member of the Egyptian national team, the 5-6 player was a representative of the Under-16 Billie Jean King Junior Davis Cup. A future graduate of the St. Fatima Language School, Metwally was also a member of the Arab and North Africa Championship teams.
"Leena is a very talented and highly experienced tennis player," Rawia said. "She is very independent, and I love her work ethic and dedication to the game. She will definitely have a great impact on the team."
