ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Troy University's head men's golf coach and Henderson State University alumna Forrest Schultz has been inducted into his alma mater's hall of honor. It was announced by Reddie Athletics on August 11.
"I am very grateful to be inducted into the Henderson State Hall of Honor this year," said Schultz. "My goal as a coach then and now is to leave a lasting impact on my players' lives and provide them a culture that highlights family, hard work, and a competitive environment. I am very fortunate to have coached players who were dedicated to our program. Their hard work and success on and off the course is what has allowed me to receive this honor."
As an NCAA DII student-athlete at Henderson State, Schultz earned his bachelor's and his master's degrees in Arkadelphia. On the course, he earned academic all-Gulf South Conference three times in his career.
"As a former Reddie myself, this is the ultimate honor in Henderson State Athletics, and I will always be indebted to HSU for the opportunity they provided me not only as a student-athlete but as a first-time head coach. The faith they had in me, has now led me here to Troy University to coach at the highest level of collegiate athletics! Finally, anytime I can receive an award of this honor, I have to thank my wife, Holly, and family for all their support. When you are away from home, as much as we are in this industry, you have to be surrounded by people who share your goals and support your career. I am blessed to have that, and it has allowed me to do what I love."
Upon taking over the head coaching duties for both the men's and women's golf teams at Henderson State, Schultz compiled a combined seven Great American Conference championships from 2013-2021, including a record five-straight for the men from 2014-18.
Schultz led the Reddie women's team to the program's first berth in the NCAA DII tournament in 2017. Henderson State would finish ranked ninth in the country that season, and the women's success would lead to a 2019 host of the NCAA DII men's central region tournament.
The newest inductee into HSU's hall of honor tallied two GAC Coach of The Year awards in 2014 and 2015. In addition, he amassed 47 all-GAC honors, four GAC individual champions, and eight all-central region selections while coaching the Reddies. The induction ceremony is scheduled to take place later this month, on September 30.
The Trojans will begin their 2022-23 season on Sunday when they travel to Choudrant, Louisana, to participate in the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. Louisiana Tech will host the season-opener, and Troy's participation will mark the second-consecutive year at the event.
