TROY, Ala. – The Troy University men's golf team will partake in its second tournament of the season tomorrow when they travel north to Gadsden, Alabama, to play in the GMAC Invitational hosted by UAB.
The tournament will span just two days and will take place at the Robert Trent Jones Silver Lake Golf Course. This marks the first of five two-day tournaments on the schedule for the Trojans during the 2022-23 campaign.
Troy is coming off a solid finish in its first tournament of the season in early September. At the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, the Trojans were able to net an eighth-place finish out of 22 teams to open the 2022-23 campaign.
"We are looking forward to heading back to the GMAC next week," said head coach Forrest Schultz. "That final round last year really put a bad taste in our mouth, and with the bulk of our core returning, I know they are excited to get another shot at it. We have had a good week to prep, and the guys have been able to lock in on what they needed to clean up from last week at the Jim Rivers."
Senior Will McFadden led the Trojan effort in Louisiana for Troy. He opened the tournament with a 71 before shooting two under par in the second round, and the Mobile native closed out his season-opening tournament with another 71-shot effort. McFadden finished the tournament tied for 19th overall.
Troy competed in the GMAC Invitational a season ago and finished in seventh place out of 15 schools. The tournament, however, was played at Greystone Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama.
"We know we have the ability to go low at any moment, and it's just a matter of when for us at this point. Our men want to make a statement each week, and that's exactly what we intend to do."
