GADSDEN, Ala. – Will McFadden and Brantley Scott of the Troy University men's golf team are in the top 10 after two rounds at the GMAC Invitational. The pairing played 36 holes of golf on Monday at RTJ at Silver Lakes, and the Trojans sit in sixth place overall.
McFadden led the way for the Trojans on day one in Gadsden and finished the day tied for seventh place overall. On a day where the majority of the field finished over par, McFadden shot two rounds of plus one golf and finished the day shooting 148.
Scott had a strong first day for Troy as well on the course. He started his day strong with a 74 on his scorecard after 18 holes. His strong showing on the first leg of the day would not carry over on the front nine on his second round of 18 holes, but he finished strong with two birdies on the back nine to finish with a 75. He will enter the final round of competition tied for ninth overall.
Nicklas Borrmann finished tied for 38th after two rounds of golf at Robert Trent Jones at Silver Lakes. He finished his first 18 holes with a score of 78. Two double bogeys, a birdie, and a bogey on the front nine on the second round of action were quickly erased by Troy's first eagle of the season on the 10th hole. Borrmann would finish the day with a 155 overall.
Jake Springer's first two rounds of action resulted in a 160 overall and a tied for 57th mark amongst the individual standings. The sophomore started his day with an 81 before rebounding with a nice mark of 79. He would record two birdies on the 10th and 12th holes to secure his final score.
George Burch got the call to round out the rest of the Trojan lineup at the GMAC Invitational. Burch began his day with the fourth-best score on the team after 18 holes after shooting an 80 in round one. Round two, however, proved costly for Burch as he would record negative marks in six of his last nine holes to finish at 162 after two rounds.
