Men’s Basketball Unveils Complete 2022-23 Schedule

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's basketball program released its 2022-23 non-conference schedule. The non-conference slate highlights two power-five matchups at Arkansas and Florida State, a second-ever meeting at San Diego State and a three-day tournament in Montana, head coach Scott Cross announced Thursday afternoon.
"Our 2022 non-conference schedule will be very challenging as we will travel as much as any team I have ever coached, but we feel that we have a team that can handle this type of schedule," Cross said. "Playing on the road at Montana, San Diego State, Florida State, and Arkansas will put us in hostile environments against very good basketball teams. However, we were a very good road basketball team last season, and we plan to do the same again this year. After all, we believe that defense, rebounding, and toughness travel."
The Trojans open their season with back-to-back dates at home against Montevallo (Nov. 7) and MUW (Nov. 10) before venturing into ACC territory to take on the Florida State Seminoles on Nov. 14 at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.
From Tallahassee, Fla., Troy then ventures 2,348 miles to the University of Montana to be one of four teams competing in the UMontana Tournament. The three-day slate pins the Trojans against Merrimack (Nov. 17), St. Thomas (Nov. 18) and Montana (Nov. 19).
Troy returns to the friendly confines of Trojan Arena for a brief matchup against Southern-New Orleans on Nov. 23. Then, the Trojans travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to battle in the Bud Walton Arena on Nov. 28 against the 2022 NCAA Tournament No. 4-seeded Arkansas Razorbacks, who are coming off an "Elite 8" appearance.
The road trip continues for Troy as the team travels to the state of Illinois to take on SIU-Edwardsville for a Saturday showdown (Dec. 3) before hiking to San Diego, Calif., to face the Aztecs of San Diego State for just the second time in program history (Dec. 5).
Troy returns home for a brief date with Tennessee Tech on Dec. 10, with one last non-conference road trip scheduled for Dec. 17 at Southeast Louisiana. Finally, Troy finishes its non-conference schedule at Trojan Arena, where the team welcomes Mercer on Dec. 21.
Trips to Southern Miss. (Dec. 29) and defending regular season champions, Texas State (Dec. 31) open the Sun Belt schedule for Troy as the team closes out 2022.
"Traveling during Sun Belt play will not be any easier with the expanded conference, but our team should be very prepared to win a championship after all our non-conference games," Cross said.
2023 opens at home for the Trojans with back-to-back dates in Trojan Arena. First, the Trojans welcome one of their newest SBC opponents in Old Dominion on Jan. 5. Then, the Trojans welcome the Red Wolves of Arkansas State (Jan. 7)
The Trojans then hit the road and venture to take on the defending SBC champions, Georgia State, on Jan. 12, with App State to follow on Jan. 14.
The conference slate continues when James Madison travels to Troy (Jan. 19), followed by ULM (Jan. 21).
A pivotal two-game road trip follows as the Trojans look to redeem their SBC semifinal exit against Louisiana (Jan. 26). Then, Troy takes on in-state foe, South Alabama, to close out the month of January on Jan. 28.
February opens with the Trojans' longest homestand with four-straight dates in Trojan Arena. First, Troy welcomes Southern Miss. (Feb. 2) and Texas State (Feb. 4) for the first weekend series. Then the Trojan faithful will witness another crucial weekend series where the Trojans welcome Louisiana (Feb. 9) and South Alabama (Feb. 11)
Following their longest homestand is the team's longest road trip of conference play as the Trojans travel from Feb. 16-22 to face Arkansas State (Feb. 16), Marshall (Feb. 18) and ULM (Feb. 22).
The regular season finale brings the Trojans home on Feb. 24 for a showdown with Coastal Carolina.
The Sun Belt Men's Basketball Championship is scheduled to start on Feb. 28 at the conclusion of the regular season. All 14 teams will compete for the championship, which will be held on March 6 at the Pensacola Bay Center.
