LUBBOCK, Texas – Troy dropped its season opener, 2-0, against the team's sole power-five opponent in Texas Tech in a physical 90-minute battle on Thursday at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
The Trojans (0-1) held firm defensively, with Lindsey LaRoche anchoring the team with six saves as the Red Raiders (1-0) let out 17 shots.
Caylah Williams and Erin Bloomfield had Troy's two shots in the game, with Williams' opportunity finishing just over the net at the 80-minute mark.
The Red Raiders played solid throughout on the offensive end, with Macy Blackburn leading the charge through her passing ability, finishing with both assists in the game – Charlotte Teeter and Ashleigh Williams finished with the goals.
Raiders Grab the Lead and then Two
The Trojans kept the Red Raiders quiet in the first 20 minutes of play, keeping TTU off the scoreboard despite four shots.
At the 20:36 mark, Kozarski Gisselle let out a shot with Troy standing tall, blocking the shot. However, two minutes later, Blackburn dished it to Teeter at the 36-yard mark for the first goal of the regular season, 1-0.
The remaining 25 minutes of the first half were quiet, with Bloomfield going wide right with her only shot of the game at 36:19.
Just three minutes into the second half Texas Tech found the back of the net for its second goal of the game as Blackburn repeated history with Williams to take the 2-0 lead.
Troy had one more opportunity to put the game within reach as Williams found herself with the ball a few feet outside the penalty box. With Red Raiders closing in on both sides, Williams put out the shot just above the net, securing the 2-0 victory for Texas Tech.
Quotable From Robert Lane
"I appreciate the effort put forth by the ladies tonight. Texas Tech is a great side that will compete for a top spot in the Big 12. That's a good early match for us against a quality opponent who asked questions about our group throughout the 90 minutes. I'm looking forward to the response from this team on Monday."
